Kollywood's request to CM

A joint meeting of important bodies of Tamil cinema, including the Tamil Film Producers Council, Tamil Directors Association, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, took place in Chennai on Tuesday evening to discuss various issues affecting the industry.

Later, the theatre owners association issued a statement, requesting the government of Tamil Nadu to reduce the recent tax hike imposed on cinema halls. Also, a decision has been taken to call on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to explain the issues to her in person.

The statement said that the association requested the State government to impose 10 per cent tax on all theatres, as against the present 30 per cent in Corporation limits and 20 per cent in other areas. It also urged the government to allow theatre owners to fix ticket prices on their own during the first two weeks of the release of films.

The joint meeting was attended by president in-charge of Tamil Film Producers Council SA Chandrasekaran, Directors Association vice president Cheran, Theatre Owners Association chief Annamalai and Film Chamber secretary L Suresh among others.
