Popular actress Vichitra's father was murdered and her mother was attacked by two masked men who escaped with 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash from a farmhouse where the couple was living near Sunguvarchatram on the outskirts of Chennai.The gruesome incident took place in the late hours of Monday and it came to light only on Tuesday morning when a maid visited the house. Police rushed to the spot immediately and sent the body of Vichitra's father Williams (65) for post mortem.
Her mother, Mary Vasantha has been hospitalised. According to Mary Vasantha, her husband lost his life in an effort to thwart the robbers, who attacked him with deadly weapons. "They were below 25 and spoke in Tamil," she reportedly told the police.
Vichitra, who is settled in Pune after her marriage, was on her way to Chennai after being informed about the incident. Police said her two sisters and a brother who are settled abroad have also been informed.
